A Dynamic Time of Transition

Students in Grades 6 - 8 follow a program of learning that supports the transition from the inquiry-based IB Primary Years Program to the more structured syllabus of the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) in grades 9 - 10. Students are supported with two teachers in each grade level, who oversee the daily homeroom times. We continue to support the development of the whole student and to extend the PYP learner profile to help students through this time of great growth and possibility.

The core curriculum framework is based on the Cambridge Secondary 1 Program. All students follow the same continuous three-year curriculum. They have the option of choosing French or Spanish as a third language. The curriculum for German in the middle school is modelled on the Thuringia State curriculum.

Grades 9 - 10

Students follow an international curriculum, the IGCSE, in preparation for the IB Diploma Program. Each subject area is comprised of a two year course of study culminating with an external examination. This process enables us to determine the best program of study for students entering grade 11.

Every student is required to take the IGCSE examinations at the end of grade 10. The Thuringian Ministry of Education (Kultusministerium) recognizes the IGCSE as the equivalent to the German “Mittlere Reife.”
