ThIS supports the Albert-Schweitzer-Kinderdorf in Erfurt

Bake sale to provide funding for new kitchen

The school community has been supporting the Schweitzer-Kinderdorf in Erfurt for a long time. Lately grade 6 organized a bake sale in school to raise money. The organization will use this money to renovate their apartment for young adults who prepare to start independent life. The next action will be our annual Giving Tree campaign where members of the school community will be asked to donate Christmas presents for the children in the Kinderdorf. A small group of our students will deliver the presents. At this occasion students will be able to establish/reinforce connections to the children and see how the donated money was used. This way, their actions become much more meaningful and this helps to instigate further fundraising plans.

ThIS starts Refugee Scholarship Programme

Sponsors wanted!

Teaching and school life at ThIS are based around beliefs and values which include compassion, empathy, kindness and generosity. Therefore it is natural for our school community to wish to help and support to those who come to our region, fleeing from war. In recent months we have been involved in a number of refugee projects to reflect our ethos.

The school leadership is now presenting an opportunity for refugee children, who were already schooled in the English language and who are advanced in their school career, to attend our school. We are delighted to announce the start of the ThIS Refugee Scholarship Programme and ask generous private persons and companies to provide fiscal assistance. Please write to, if you would like further details regarding this exciting venture and forward this message to people who could be interested in giving financial support.

Field trips abroad

Language trips to France and Spain

Teaching beyond the classroom is a reality at ThIS! Our Grade 9 and 10 students travelled to Paris and Barcelona for a week long language trips. They were not only using their language skills but also learned a lot about the culture and the history of these countries. To do this in the actual setting and context of the respective countries enriches the learning experience and makes students aware of the importance of opening one’s mind and becoming more familiar with other cultures. These are important aspects of the IB Learner Profile which we strive to embed in our teaching and learning.
